Turmeric, charcoal, the moringa leaf, the jack fruit seed, eucalyptus, arnica-peyote paste, nopal cactus and so many other simple yet powerful herbal remedies indigenous to the tropics are there to help support your health. It's just how things exist, and you don't have to go far to find or grow them. They are all right there.
I truly reveled in the reality that a naturally holistic approach to healing was the running theme at the forefront of healing in my journey past civilization as I knew it. Nature was the remedy of choice. I felt a beautiful sense of relief every time I witnessed this in action. People were not overrun with pharmaceuticals even though there was easy access to them. Connecting with the ocean, the sunsets, the sunrise, animals, family feasts, helping strangers, sharing smiles - this wasn't just for vacationers and wanderers, it was an integral part of peoples daily existence.
I have returned from my trip and I continue to reflect. At CIIS, I studied approaches to behavioral change and personal development with a focus on healing foods, neurophysiology and the mind-body connection.
My final thesis encompassed all of these factors as I studied a new approach to addiction recovery, an integrative approach, involving a whole system focus on healing. Looking beyond talk therapy and counseling, my research showed a phenomenal increase in sustained recovery when the whole person was addressed as opposed to just one method such as counseling. My discoveries stemmed from investigation into brain health, gut health, underlying addictions, traumas, genetics, community support, self-love, resiliency and the crucial importance of finding purpose in life.
My degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies has opened doors to my own well-being while giving me a broad spectrum of tools to help others awaken their own natural healing abilities.
Whether I am sitting one-on-one with a client in a professional atmosphere or exploring the exotic corners of the earth, I carry this intention with me with gratitude, grace, and great appreciation for the opportunity to forge these connections in life.
